he shall receive as compensation therefor the sum of two thou-
sand seven hundred dollars ($2, 700. 00) per annum, for which
said sum the County Commissioners are hereby authorized and
empowered for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1931, and an-
nually thereafter, to levy against the assessable property of the
county, and which sum shall be in lieu of all fees and expenses.

SEC. 2. It shall be the duty of the Supervisor of County
Aid to investigate all applications from persons desiring County
Aid, all of which applications shall be in writing signed by the
parties requesting such aid, to determine their fitness and
necessity for aid, and to make a report thereof to the County
Commissioners. If such applications be approved by the Coun-
ty Commissioners, the County Treasurer is hereby authorized
and directed to disburse, through the Supervisor of County
Aid, such sums as may be approved by the County Commis-
sioners, and he shall become the trustee of all such persons and
it shall be his duty to see to the appropriate and proper appli-
cation of such sums of money for the benefit of those whose
applications have been approved. It shall further be his duty
to investigate all applications for commitments heretofore or
hereafter made by or on behalf of the indigent insane for care
and maintenance at any state hospital for the insane and report
to the County Commissioners that they may determine whether
or not such persons be indigent and whether or not the County
may be entitled to reimbursement for monies expended or to
be expended in the maintenance and care of such persons. He
shall also investigate all applications made on behalf of in-
digent persons for care or treatment in any hospital, which
application shall be in writing and in form satisfactory to the
County Commissioners, and the County Commissioners shall
determine therefrom whether or not such applicants be indigent
or whether they may be able to reimburse the county for such
expenses incurred in their behalf.

SEC. 3. The Supervisor of County Aid may avail himself
of the services, advice and cooperation of the Montgomery
County Social Service League in carrying out his duties under
Section 2. The agent designated as the agent for the County
Commissioners to carry out the purposes of the levy, in a sum
not exceeding ten thousand ($10, 000), dollars, for the purpose
of extending relief to the poor, indigent, or ill persons pro-
vided for in Sections 1 and 2, Chapter 297, of the Acts of the
General Assembly of Maryland, Session of 1929, shall appoint
