purchase, repair or maintenance of fire-fighting equipment.
The said payment shall be made on the first day of September
in each and every year by the County Commissioners of Charles
County.

84B. The County Commissioners of Charles County are
hereby authorized, directed and empowered to levy the said
sum of five hundred dollars ($500. 00) annually for the above
purpose on the assessable property of said county. Before
the County Commissioners shall be required to pay the afore-
said sum of money, the said Commissioners shall have the
power to require the officers of said fire department to appear
before them and show to the satisfaction of said Commissioners
that any sums of money paid by the said Commissioners to the
said fire department under this Act have been expended for the
purposes set forth in this Act, and also that said fire depart-
ment is an active fire-fighting organization. In the event said
fire department hereinbefore mentioned ceases to remain an
active fire-fighting organization, or has not used the moneys
appropriated to it for the sole purposes set forth in this Act,
then this Act shall become null and void.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1931.

CHAPTER 63.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections
152 and 153 of Article 15 of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Kent County, " sub-
title "County Treasurer, " as the same were respectively re-
enacted by Chapter 146 of the Acts of 1929 and Chapter
114 of the Acts of 1906, providing for the election of a
County Treasurer for Kent County, fixing his term of
office, compensation, penalty of bond, and defining his duties
in the collection of State and county taxes in Kent County
and providing also for the appointment of' deputy treasurers
and prescribing their duties and compensation.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Sections 152 and 153 of Article 15 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
