Baltimore City to try or commit for trial any person ac-
cused of violating any of the Traffic Ordinances of Balti-
more City, and shall have concurrent jurisdiction with Jus-
tices of the Peace, committing magistrates or police jus-
tices throughout the State outside of Baltimore City, to
hear and determine all complaints of violations of the Mo-
tor Vehicle Laws of the State in those cases where it is
convenient for the accused to have such complaint heard
and determined in Baltimore City. The jurisdiction, pow-
ers and duties heretofore vested in and required of Jus-
tices of the Peace in Baltimore City under Section 158
of this sub-title shall hereafter be exclusively vested in and
required of the Justices of the Peace of the Traffic Court.
Said Justices shall, during the hours when said Traffic
Court is required to be in session, transact no other busi-
ness except the business required of them by the provi-
sions of this sub-title. The said Justices of the Peace of
the Traffic Court, and any Justices who may be designated
to sit in their absence, shall have the power and authority
to enforce obedience to their orders and judgments by at-
tachments, and to inflict summary punishment for con-
tempt of court by a fine not exceeding in any one case the
sum of twenty-five dollars; all of which fines shall be paid
to the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles in the same man-
ner as other fines; and imprisonment in default of pay-
ment of such fines shall be imposed to the same extent as
in the case of other fines; provided, however, that the
power aforesaid to punish for contempt shall not be con-
strued to extend to any cases arising in Traffic Court, ex-
cept the cases specifically set forth and provided for in
Section 4 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land as within the power of the several courts of this State
to inflict summary punishments for contempt of court.
The Police Commissioner of Baltimore City shall desig-
nate for service in the Traffic Court four or more mem-
bers of the police force of the rank of sergeants, who shall,
after such designation have the rank of lieutenants, shall
receive the salary of lieutenants and shall be subject to
the same rights and duties in regard to the Pension Fund
as are now or may hereafter be given or imposed by law
relating to lieutenants, one of whom shall be assigned to
each of the parts or sessions of the Traffic Court herein
provided and who shall execute the powers and directions
of Justice presiding at said session. This section shall
include and apply to all sergeants who are now, or have
heretofore been assigned to the Traffic Court. In addi-
