SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Chapter 79 Section 34 of the Acts of the
General Assembly of Maryland of 1908, codified as Sec-
tion 555 of Article 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland (1930 Edition), entitled "Prince George's
County" sub-title "Hyattsville" sub-heading "Contracts, "
be and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted with
amendments to read as follows:
555. In all cases where any municipal work of what-
ever character is to be done within the corporate limits of
Hyattsville, the estimated cost of which shall exceed
five hundred dollars, the Common Council shall invite pro-
posals for said work by advertisement for two weeks in
some newspaper printed in Hyattsville, at such reasonable
compensation as the Mayor and Common Council shall
determine, and the said Mayor and Common Council shall,
in all cases, award the contract for such work to the low-
est bidders therefor, reserving at all times the right to re-
ject any and all bids received and wherever a bid is accepted
the Mayor and Common Council may require the suc-
cessful bidder to furnish a bond at the expense of the suc-
cessful bidder in a good and sufficient amount conditioned
as may be required by the said Mayor and Common Coun-
cil to insure the satisfactory completion of the work for
which said bid is accepted or a contract is awarded. When-
ever the Mayor and Common Council may be able to pur-
chase material and/or employ labor by direct purchase or
employment at an amount less than the amount of the low-
est bid for labor and/or material after advertisement as
required by the provision of this section then in that event
the Mayor and Common Council may undertake directly
to purchase said materials and/or employ such labor as
may be necessary to perform the municipal work as re-
quired.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1935.
