CHAPTER 260.

AN ACT to repeal Sections 17 to 20, both inclusive of Arti-
cle 88A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1924 Edi-
tion), title "State Aid and Charities, " sub-title "Volunteer
Fireman, " and to enact in lieu thereof five new sections
said new sections to be known as Sections 17 to 20A, both
inclusive, and to follow immediately after Section 17 of
said Article, providing for pensions for disabled volunteer
firemen, their widows and dependent children, education
for the dependent children of permanently disabled and
. deceased volunteer firemen and for an appropriation to
carry the provisions thereof into effect.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Sections 17 to 20, both inclusive, of Article
88A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1924 Edition),
title "State Aid and Charities, " sub-title "Volunteer Fire-
men, " be and the same are hereby repealed.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That five new
sections be and they are hereby added to Article 88A of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1924 Edition), title
"State Aid and Charities, " sub-title "Volunteer Firemen, "
said new sections to be known as Sections 17 to 20A, both
inclusive of said Article and to read as follows:

17. Whenever any volunteer firemen in good standing
of an incorporated volunteer fire company in the State of
Maryland, shall be temporarily or permanently disabled
as a direct result from active participation in fighting a
fire or while going to or from a fire, the said fireman shall
lay his case before the Board of Trustees of the Maryland
State Firemen's Association, supported in all cases by the
recommendation of the fire company of which he is a
member, and the Board of Trustees aforesaid shall proceed
to consider the same, and if the facts are found as above
stated, the name of the firemen shall be placed on a list
to be kept by the Secretary of the Maryland State Fire-
men's Association, to be known as "Disabled Firemen's
List, " and every person so placed on said list shall be en-
titled to receive a pension from the Maryland Firemen's
Association in a sum, the amount of which shall be decided
upon by the Board of Trustees of the Maryland State Fire-
men's Association and to be paid out of its treasury at
such times and in such instalments and in such amounts
as the said Board of Trustees of the Maryland State Fire-
men's Association may decide, during the period he is so
disabled or so long as said pensioner is without other
means of comfortable support.
