hereunder, except to the extent that funds may be available
in the State Treasury for reimbursement.
The State shall reimburse each County and the City of
Baltimore to the extent of two-thirds of the amount ex-
pended for relief for each person receiving an old age pen-
sion under the provisions of this Article. Claims for reim-
bursement shall be presented monthly by the County Com-
missioners of the several Counties and by the Mayor and
City Council of Baltimore to the State Comptroller. The
amount so certified by the County Commissioners of the
several Counties and the Mayor and City Council of Balti-
more shall be paid from the State Treasury out of funds
allocated or allotted for the purpose, upon the audit and
warrant of the State Comptroller to the fiscal officers of the
respective Counties and of Baltimore City entitled thereto.
16. There shall be a department, to be known as the
Department of Old Age Pensions and Relief of the State of
Maryland, which shall be charged with the execution of
this Article. The head of said Department shall be the
Board of Old Age Pensions and Relief, consisting of five
persons appointed by the Governor, not more than three of
whom shall be of any one political party, who shall serve
without pay but who shall receive their actual expenses in-
curred in performing their duties hereunder. The term of
office of each member of said Board shall be five years, ex-
cept that, of the members first appointed, one shall be ap-
pointed for a period of five years, one for a period of four
years, one for a period of three years, one for a period of
two years and one for a period of one year. There shall be
an Administrator of Pensions and Relief, who shall be ap-
pointed by the Board from a list certified by the State Em-
ployment Commissioner. The qualifications of said Admin-
istrator shall be specified by the Board. He shall receive
an annual compensation as fixed and provided by the bud-
get and may with the approval of the Board employ inves-
tigators and clerical and other assistants within such ex-
pense allowance as shall be fixed and provided by the
budget. The Governor may designate one member of the
Board to be the chairman thereof, or in default of such
designation or in case of vacancy, the Board shall select
its own chairman.
The provisions of Senate Bill 262, Session of 1935, in
the event of its enactment by the General Assembly and
its approval by the Governor either before or after approv-
al of this Act, are intended to supersede the provisions of
this Act to the extent of any inconsistency therewith; and
