SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect on June 1, 1935.

CHAPTER 555.
AN ACT to add four new sections to Article 41 of the An-
notated Code of Maryland (1924 Edition), title "Gov-
ernor—Executive and Administrative Departments, " to
be under sub-title "Department of Engineering, " said
new sections to be known as Sections 128 to 131, both
inclusive, and to follow immediately after Section 127 of
said Article, creating a State Department of Mechanical
Engineering and fixing the duties and powers thereof
for the purpose of making a complete survey of all the
mechanical properties of the State, compiling an accurate
statement of the physical condition thereof, and super-
vising the same.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That four new sections be and they are hereby
added to Article 41 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1924 Edition), title "Governor—Executive and Adminis-
trative Departments, " to be under sub-title "Department
of Mechanical Engineering, " said new sections to be known
as Sections 128 to 131, both inclusive, to follow immediately
after Section 127 of said Article, and to read as follows:
128. There is hereby created the State Department of
Mechanical Engineering, the head of which shall be the State
Engineer. Said State Engineer shall be appointed by the Gov-
ernor, and shall devote his time to the duties of such office.
Said Engineer shall be subject to removal by the Governor
for official misconduct or incompetency, as in the case of
other civil officers. Said Engineer shall be appointed for
two years and the term of his office shall commence on the
first Monday of May next ensuing his appointment, pro-
vided the term of the person first appointed shall begin
October 1, 1935, and he shall hold office until his successor
is appointed and qualified. Said Engineer shall receive a
salary of five thousand ($5, 000. 00) dollars per annum,
payable monthly, and he shall appoint such assistants and
at such salaries as he may deem necessary, subject to the
approval of the Governor, within the amount appropri-
