ness in the name of such executors or administrators for
the benefit of the Estate of the deceased for a period not
exceeding eight months from the date of any such permis-
sion, unless the license shall sooner expire, in which1 case
upon application by the executor as above provided a re-
newal license for a period not exceeding 8 months after the
death of the license holder may be issued subject to the
right of protest, revocation, suspension and restric-
tion as in other cases, upon the payment of a pro
rata license fee for such period, and during the
period of such continuation the said license and the execu-
tors or administrators of the deceased shall be subject to all
of the provisions of this Act. If the business of the licensee
be not continued as above provided, his executors or ad-
ministrators shall be authorized to apply for and obtain
any refund to which the deceased would have been entitled
if his license had been surrendered for cancellation upon
the date of his death. Upon the death of the holder of
any Class E or Class F license the license shall expire; pro-
vided, however, that upon application to the Comptroller,
and upon payment of a fee of one dollar, made by an ap-
plicant on behalf of the company with respect to which
such expired license was issued, a new license shall be
granted by the Comptroller for the continuation of the
privilege conferred by such expired license during the per-
iod such expired license would have continued but for such
death.

18. LICENSES—RENEWALS. Upon the expiration of
any license, except temporary and special licenses issued
under the provisions of this Act, the holder of such ex-
piring license shall be entitled to a new license for another
year upon the payment of the annual fee herein prescribed,
provided an application under oath for such new license be
filed with the official authorized to issue same, and pro-
vided, further, that a protest signed by not less than ten
residents, or real estate owners of the precinct in
which the licensed place of business is located, has not been
filed against the granting of such new license, at least
thirty days before the expiration of the license for which a
renewal is sought, and if such a protest has been filed, the
same shall be heard and determined as in the case of origi-
nal applications. The Comptroller, and the Clerk of the
Court for the City or County, as the case may be, shall be
authorized to issue such new licenses for the ensuing year
as hereinabove provided, at any time between April 15th
and May 1st, of each and every year, but all such licenses
shall be dated May 1st.
