take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 59.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
635 of Article 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland, title "Prince George's County, " sub-title
"Laurel, " as the same was enacted by Chapter 431 of
the Acts of Assembly of 1933, increasing the limit of
the tax authorized to be levied by the Mayor and City
Council of Laurel for a volunteer fire department from
two cents to five cents.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 635 of Article 17 of the Code of
Public Local Laws, title "Prince George's County, " sub-title
"Laurel, " as the same was enacted by Chapter 431 of the
Acts of Assembly of 1933, be and the same is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, so as to read
as follows:

635. The said Mayor and City Council shall have power
to levy a tax of not over five cents on each one hun-
dred dollars' worth of assessable property each year for
the purpose of equipment or maintenance of any volunteer
fire department which may be in existence in said Town,
or for the maintenance of any building in which the same
may be housed, the proceeds thereof to be delivered either
to the said fire company, or expended by the Mayor and
City Council in its discretion.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is
hereby declared to be an emergency law and necessary for
the immediate preservation of the public health, safety, and
welfare and being passed by a yea and nay vote of three-
fifths of all the members of the two Houses of the General
Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date of its
passage.
