monthly; and shall designate the remaining police officers
so appointed as patrolmen at a salary not to exceed fifteen
hundred ($1, 500. 00) dollars per annum, payable monthly,
and the County Commissioners are further authorized and
directed to pay to every member of the Montgomery County
Police force so designated and appointed an additional sum
of three hundred ($300. 00) dollars per annum for the pur-
pose of defraying each member's expenses for material and
supplies for his motorcycle, uniform and official equipment,
and that the members of the Montgomery County Police shall
receive in addition to the amounts so authorized, no other fees
or compensation of any kind whatsoever.
Provided that the said County Commissioners are hereby
authorized to increase the compensation of the members of said
force designated as "patrolmen" up to but not exceeding the
sum sixteen hundred and eighty dollars ($1, 680. 00) per an-
num, said increase to be granted as follows: upon the comple-
tion of each two years of service the compensation of said
patrolmen shall be increased sixty dollars ($60. 00) per annum
until such time as the total annual compensation of a patrol-
man so compensated shall not exceed $1, 680. 00 per annum,
and provided further that no additional compensation herein
authorized shall be granted except upon the recommendation
of the Chief of Police of Montgomery County, and as herein
authorized.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That Section 11 of
Chapter 299 of the Acts of the General Assembly of Mary-
land, Session of 1927, entitled "An Act to repeal and re-enact
with amendments Chapter 259 of the Acts of the General
Assembly of Maryland, Session of 1922, entitled 'An Act to
authorize, empower and direct the County Commissioners of
Montgomery County to appoint three or more, not exceeding
six additional constables for Montgomery County at large on
the first Tuesday of July in the year 1922 for a term of
two years from the date of the appointment and to provide
rules and regulations governing the duties of said constables
and provide for their compensation and expenses of equip-
ment, said constables to be known and designated as "Mont-
gomery County Police. " So as to provide for an increase in
the number and compensation of the members of said force,
to relieve them from the necessity of giving bond and to pro-
vide for the establishment of certain stations, ' " be repealed
and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
