said retirement, to the end and effect, that every retired police-
man or officer of Police shall receive the same pay from the
special or pension fund under the management and control
of the Police Commissioner of Baltimore City, as every other
retired policeman or officer of Police, who has attained a like
grade or rank; therefore

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland,
That the Police Commissioner of Baltimore City,
be and he is hereby authorized and directed to increase the
pay and pension paid to Robert D. Carter, retired Marshall of
Police, to such an amount as shall equal one-half of the salary
or pay now provided by law to be paid to the Inspec-
tor of Police of Baltimore City, and said pay or pension, as
so increased, shall be paid to Robert D. Carter for the rest
of his life; and to increase the pay or pension paid to James
Manning, retired Deputy Marshall of Police and Samuel W.
House, retired Deputy Marshall of Police, each, such an
amount as shall equal one-half of the salary or pay now paid
to an Inspector of Police of Baltimore City, said pay or pen-
sion so increased in each case to be paid to the said James
Manning and the said Samuel W. House, respectively, for
the rest of their lives; and each of said pensions shall be paid
by the said Police Commissioner of Baltimore City to the said
Robert D. Carter, James Manning and Samuel W. House,
respectively, at such time and such manner as other pensions
are paid to retired policemen and officers of police.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1929.

CHAPTER 263.

AN ACT to authorize the creation of a State debt in the aggre-
gate amount of Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50, 000. 00), the
proceeds thereof to be used for the payment of the deficit in
constructing and equipping the new building of Charlotte
Hall School, in St. Mary's County, including water, sewerage
and lighting systems, and providing generally for the issue
and sale of certificates of indebtedness evidencing said loan.
