provided they shall not bid a sum greater approximately than
the taxes in arrears upon said property and the interest and
expenses, of sale and all costs or reporting such sale, and to sell
and convey or tease the same, an in their judgment and discre-
tion shall be deemed best for the interests of the Commissioners
of Hurlock.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That all Acts and part of
Acts inconsistent with the provisions of this Act, be and the
same are, hereby repealed, in so far as they are inconsistent.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the first day of June, 1929, provided, however, that
nothing herein contained is intended or shall be construed to
interfere with or defeat any liability, powers and duties of the
clerk to the Commissioners of Hurlock, now appointed or here-
after be instituted by the clerk to the Commissioners of Hur-
lock for the collection of taxes already levied, due or in arrears,
and it is hereby expressly provided that the said clerk to the
Commissioners of Hurlock, aforesaid, shall proceed to complete
said collection under the existing provisions of law as fully as
if this Act had not been passed, and for that purpose alone the
provisions of law relative to the collection of taxes by the clerk
to the Commissioners of Hurlock, are hereby continued in force
until such accounts are settled and closed as aforesaid.

CHAPTER 450.
AN ACT to add a new section to Article 17 of the Code of
Public General Laws of Maryland, title "Clerks of Courts, "
sub-title "General Duties of Clerks, " to follow Section 1
of said Article, and to be known as Section 1A, providing
that the fees provided for in said Section 1 shall not ap-
ply to or be chargeable against men or women who have
formerly been in the Military, Air or Naval Service of the
United States, and require any of the papers mentioned in
said Section 1 for the purpose of filing with any claim he
or she may have against the United States Government,
provided application for such paper is made by the veteran
desiring the same or by the United States Government.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That a new section be added to Article 17 of the
