members, such sum as the Board provided for in Section 58 in
this Article shall deem proper.

The Maryland Veterans Commission shall also have the power
and authority, in its discretion, to expend from the funds in
its hands not to exceed One Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($150)
annually for each war orphan of Maryland, after reaching the
age of eighteen, for the purpose of attending a secondary school,
college or university, or pursuing a course of vocational training.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1929.

CHAPTER 431.


AN ACT to add a new section to Article 27 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1924 Edition), title "Crimes and Pun-
ishments, " sub-title III, "Place of Reformation and Pun-
ishments, " said new section to be known as Section 681A
and to follow immediately after Section 681 of said Article,
fixing the minimum and maximum salaries to be paid ac-
cording to the tenure of service and the classification of cer-
tain guards of the Maryland Penitentiary and providing for
the annual leave of such employees.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland,
That a new section be and it is hereby added to
Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1924 Edition),
title "Crimes and Punishments, " sub-title III, "Places of Ref-
ormation and Punishment, " said new section to be known as
Section 681A and to follow immediately after Section 681 of
said Article and to read as follows:

Section 681 A. That the Board of Welfare shall immedi-
ately upon the taking effect of this Act, cause to be made a
classification of the guards of the Maryland Penitentiary as
may be for the best interest, conduct and management of the
institution in conformity with the provisions of this section in
respect to the duties to be performed and the salaries to be paid
according to the tenure of service. The Assistant Warden
shall be paid a salary of twenty-seven hundred dollars ($2, -
700. 00) annually. The day head guard shall be paid a salary
