since their marriage they have had several daughters, and are desirous that their sons should bear
their father's surname; therefore,

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for Sa-
muel, William and Jacob Cole, after the passage of this act, to fake upon themselves their father's
name; and the name of the said Samuel, William and Jacob Cole, shall be and are hereby changed
and altered into the name of Samuel, William and Jacob Caple.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That all securities, promises, contracts, assurances, deeds, and law-
ful acts whatsoever, heretofore made, or hereafter made, by or to the said Samuel Cole, William
Cole and Jacob Cole, by the name and surname of Samuel Caple, William Caple and Jacob Caple,
shall be of the same force and effect, and equally avail, to all intents and purposes, as if the name
and surname of Samuel Caple, William Caple and Jacob Caple, had been their true and proper names
and surnames from their birth, any law or custom to the contrary notwithstanding.

An ACT for the relief of Patrick Gillaspy, of Caroline County.

WHEREAS it has been represented to this general assembly, by the petition of Patrick Gillas-
py, of Caroline county, that he the said Patrick Gillaspy, a native of Ireland, who emigrated
to the United States in the year seventeen hundred and eighty-four, and resided in this country ever
since, and had since his emigration acquired certain real property in this state, and that the said Pa-
trick Gillaspy had not been naturalized before the purchase of said property, agreeably to the law of
the United States, but that the said Patrick Gillaspy has since been naturalized: And whereas the
title to the said property may be called in question, to his great injury, from his not having become na-
turalized, agreeable to the laws of the United States, before acquiring the said property; therefore,

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the title to the real property, justly
and fairly acquired by the said Patrick Gillaspy, whether such title be derived by gift, grant, pur-
chase or devise, be and the same is hereby as amply and as absolutely vested in the said Patrick Gil-
laspy, his heirs and assigns, for ever, as if the said Patrick Gillaspy had become naturalized agreea-
ble to the laws of the United States before the acquiring such real property; provided always, that
nothing herein contained shall in any manner defeat or affect any right, title or claim, to the said
property, or any part thereof, lawfully acquired by any person or persons whatsoever before the pas-
sage of this act.

CHAP. VI.

Passed 6th of
Jan. 1810.

An ACT to give validity and operation to the Deed of Conveyance
therein mentioned.

BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the deed of conveyance from Richard
Clarke, of Baltimore county, to Samuel McCormick, of the same place, dated the seventeenth
day of August, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine, duly executed, ac-
knowledged, and recorded among the land records of Baltimore county court, in Liber W G, No. 87,
shall have the same force,, operation and effect, to all intents and purposes, as if the said Samuel
McCormick had been at the date thereof a citizen of the United States,

CHAP. VII.

An ACT authorising John Hunter, late Sheriff and Collector of Bal-
timore County, to complete his Collection.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition of John Hunter, late
sheriff and collector of Baltimore county, that from various causes therein set forth he has
not been able to complete his collection within the time limitted by law, and that there is still due to
him, as sheriff and collector of said county, considerable sums of money, and praying a law may
pass to enable him to collect the same; therefore,

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That, the said John Hunter be and he is
hereby authorised to collect, until the first day of November, eighteen hundred and ten, all balances
due him as sheriff and collector of Baltimore county for the year one thousand eight hundred and
eight, in the same manner as he could or might have done within the time limitted by law.
