An ACT to confirm certain Acts done by Persons conscientiously
scrupulous of taking an Oath, and for other purposes.
WHEREAS many persons conscientiously scrupulous of taking an oath have acted as commissi-
oners in many cases in the several counties in this state, and doubts have arisen whether
such acts will stand good and valid in law; therefore,
II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That all acts heretofore done, and which
may hereafter be clone, by any person or persons conscientiously scrupulous of taking an oath, as far
as relate to serving as commissioners, be, and the same is hereby declared to be, as good and available
in law, to all intents and purposes, as if they had taken an oath, any law to the contrary notwith-
standing.

An ACT for the payment of the Journal of Accounts.
WHEREAS it appears by the journal of accounts of this session, that there is due from this
state the sum of twenty-six thousand and thirty-five dollars and eighty five cents;
II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the treasurer of the western shore
shall, and he is hereby authorised and required, to pay the several persons, their executors, admini-
strators, assigns or orders, or to such of them as shall offer to receive the same, the several sums
of current money allowed to them respectively, as they appear to be settled and ascertained by the
said journal of accounts, out of any money now in the treasury, or that shall come into the treasury,
subject to the appropriation of the general assembly.

Resolutions assented to November Session, 1809.
RESOLVED, That the levy court of Anne-Arundel county be and they are hereby authorised and empowered
to levy a sum of money on the said county for the support, cloathing and maintenance, of William Johnson, (at
present sick, and unable, by reason of his infirmities, to proceed to the state of Tennessee, where the said John-
son resides, ) until the attending physician of the poor-house shall think the said Johnson may be discharged
without danger, and that the trustees of the poor for the county aforesaid be authorised to receive him into the
poor-house for the county aforesaid.
RESOLVED, That the chancellor be and he is hereby authorised and requested to examine the case of Matthew
Clark, and to decide thereon in the same manner as he would do if James Webb had obtained a patent for the
same in his life-time, and if in his opinion the said Clark is entitled to the tract of land called Mount Webb, in.
Harford county, he is hereby authorised to order a patent to him for the same.
RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby authorised to pay to Benjamin Du-
lany, senior, of Charles county, the amount of a bill of exchange for twenty-seven pounds four shillings and
six-pence sterling, with interest from the date thereof, according to the terms of two resolutions passed by the
general assembly in eighteen hundred and six; provided, that the said Benjamin Dulany shall give such security
as the treasurer shall require, to indemnify the state in the payment of the money herein before directed, against
any future claim for the same.
RESOLVED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, that our senators in congress be instructed, and cur repre-
sentatives requested, and they are hereby su instructed and requested, to use all proper means and exertions to
procure the passing a law establishing weights and measures.
RESOLVED, That the governor be and he is hereby requested to transmit these resolutions to the senators and
representatives of this state, when in congress assembled.
Whereas certain resolutions were entered into by the " house of delegates" of the general assembly of Mary-
land, at the last November session, the object of which was to impress a belief upon the public mind, that the
citizens of the state of Maryland viewed the act passed by congress " imposing an embargo, and the several acts
" supplementary thereto, as constituting a portentous system of unnecessary, impolitic and unprecedented re-
" straint upon the foreign trade and domestic intercourse of these United States; " and also directing " the se-
" nators and representatives from this state, in the congress of the United States, to exert themselves with alt
