the powers and duties which are now or may hereafter be con-
ferred upon county health officers by law; he shall enforce all
the public health statutes and rules and regulations of the
State Board of Health or the local board of health, under the
direct supervision and control of the local board of health, and
shall perform such other duties and exercise such other duties
and exercise such other functions as the local board of health
shall direct. The local board of health may make and enter
into a contract with such county health officer for such period
of time as may be mutually agreeable, but not longer than the
terms of office of the members of said local Board of Health
and may fix the salary of any county officer appointed subject
to the provisions of this section, without regard to the provisions
of Section 48 of this Article. This section shall not apply to
Charles County and St. Mary's County.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1927.

CHAPTER 503.

AN ACT to provide for the payment upon the institution of
suit of all costs and fees in all civil cases instituted in the
police court for Montgomery County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the police justice of Montgomery County shall
be entitled to charge and collect the costs and fees herein pro-
vided for the performance of his duties in civil cases, and such
costs and fees shall be payable at the time of the institution
of said proceedings to the clerk of the Police Court for Mont-
gomery, said costs and fees to be as follows:
For actions ex-contractu and ex-delicto (first costs).... $2. 00

For summoning each additional defendant........... 50

For trial...................................... 1. 00

For swearing each witness........................ 20

For copy of judgment........................... 25

For issuing writ of fi. fa........................ 1. 50

For issuing writ of venditioni-exponas............. 2. 00

For issuing writ of supersedeas................... 1. 00
