820 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 446

Mayor and Council may, by and under ordinance, require
the following parties or persons, whether individuals, firms,
associations, or incorporated bodies, to apply for or obtain
license or permit, to wit: (1) All parties or persons who hawk,
peddle, huckster or vend any marketable commodities, wares
or merchandise of any description upon or along the streets,
alleys or thoroughfares of Pocomoke City; provided, that no
license shall be required of the producer, grower or the
manufacturer of such marketable commodities provided, fur-
ther, that persons who themselves catch fish, crabs and other
articles of food from the water, and persons who catch or shoot
game shall not be required to take out license to sell the same.
(2) All persons who go from house to house or place to place
in said town to sell or dispose of their wares, merchandise,
marketable articles, or other commodities; provided that no
license shall be required of the producer or manufacturer or
such marketable articles or commodities and no license shall
be required if the party has already a trader's license issued
by the town or is conducting a retail business in the town
under a, State license. (3) All barbers who have shops or
saloons in said town for the accommodation of their patrons,
and the owner and the managers of any laundrybusiness who
has a fixed place for work. (4) All persons, whether they are
persons who travel about or otherwise, not being resident physi-
cians or druggists of said town who dispose of medicines,
remedies, nostrums or patent medicine or who dispense medical
advice on the streets or in other places of the town; provided,
that nothing herein shall prevent the sale of medicine under
an ordinary trader's license; when the sales are made from
a wagon, carriage or other vehicle a license for it may also be
required. (5) All retail dealers in goods or articles of mer-
chandise. (6) All persons who keep livery stables for the
hire of horses, carriages or teams, or who keep feed stables.
(7) All proprietors of hotels, and parties who keep restaurants,
eating houses and ice cream saloons and all vendors of ice
cream who have no town trader's license. (8) All vendors or
traders in wood and coal who pay no state or town license to
conduct said business; this does not apply to growers of wood,
or occasional sales of wood brought from the country to be sold
from cart or wagon. (9) All express companies, and all life
insurance companies, which have offices or agents in Pocomoke
City, the agent to be bound to pay for the license, and the
Mayor and Council to be entitled to compel the agent to take
out license by fines and forfeitures: the same agent may act
