the town treasurer of Pocomoke City all moneys collected by
him at such time as the law may appoint or the Mayor and
Council may direct then and in such case this obligation to
be void, but otherwise to remain in full force and virtue in
law. " The said town clerk shall make monthly settlements
with the town treasurer for all town taxes, fines and other
moneys collected by him during the previous month and such
settlement shall be entered in full in the minutes of the
Council.

267. The Mayor and Council may, when they deem such
officers necessary, appoint one or more night watchmen, and
may by ordinance or by unanimous vote of the Council ap-
proved by the Mayor and entered in the minute book of said
town fix their term of office, their salary and their duties. All
night watchmen, when so appointed, before entering upon the
discharge of their duties shall take and subscribe before the
Mayor the same oath herein required to be taken and sub-
scribed by policemen. And all night watchmen shall have
all the police powers of constables, and any person resisting
them, or any of them, in the discharge of their duties shall be
liable, upon conviction, to the same penalties as are imposed
for resisting a constable. And they shall have power to serve,
deliver or post all orders or notices which under any law or
ordinance are required to be served, delivered or posted and
to make returns thereon to the Mayor, the Council or the
Mayor and Council, and the return of any night watchman
thereto shall have the same force and effect as is hereinbefore
given to the return of the policemen to any such notice. They
shall have the same power for making arrests and for serving
the warrants or writs for criminal offenses, issued by any Jus-
tice of the Peace, for any offense against the ordinances of the
town or the laws of the State, if the said offense is committed
within the corporate limits of said town, as are hereinbefore
conferred upon the policemen of Pocomoke City. Special
policemen may be appointed from time to time by the Mayor,
with the consent and approval of the Council, for a term of
not to exceed two weeks, when it is deemed necessary for the
good order and peace of the town, all of whom shall be vested
with the same police powers during the term for which they
shall have been appointed, as herein provided for policemen
and night watchmen; and the Mayor and Council shall pre-
scribe their duties and fix their compensation either by ordi-
