tained. And the said chief of police and the other policemen
shall perform such other duties as may be imposed upon him,
or them, by the charter or ordinances of the town or as may
be assigned to them by the Mayor and Council. They shall
pay over all fines coming into their hands to the town clerk
monthly and the amount thereof shall be entered upon the
minutes. Each policeman before entering upon the discharge
of his duties shall take the oath required by Article 1, Sec-
tion 6, of the Constitution of the State of Maryland. If any
vacancies shall occur in the offices of the town clerk, town
treasurer, superintendent of water works, attorney, policeman,
night watchman or any other appointed officer, the Mayor, by
and with the advice and approval of the Council, shall ap-
point a successor to serve out the unexpired term for which
the original appointment was made.

266. Before entering upon the duties of his office the town
clerk shall in addition to the taking and subscribing of the
oath hereinbefore provided execute a corporate bond to the
State of Maryland in the penalty of ten thousand dollars, the
premium on same to be paid by the town, to be approved by
the Mayor and Council which approval shall be endorsed on
the bond and signed by the Mayor and at least two of the
Councilmen. This bond shall be recorded among the general
records of the town by the town clerk, and also in the office of
the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Worcester County, where
It shall be retained. It shall be recorded therein as other
official bonds and a copy thereof duly certified by said Clerk
shall be admissible as evidence in any of the courts of this
State, as well as the original, but the failure to record the
bond or to endorse said approval thereon shall not affect its
validity or the liability of those who execute the same. The
following conditions shall in substance be set forth therein:
"Now the condition of this obligation is such that if the above
bound (insert Clerk's name), who has lately been appointed
town clerk of Pocomoke City shall well, truly and faithfully
perform all the duties and functions belonging or appertain-
ing to said office under the Charter and Ordinances of said
town and under the orders of the Mayor and Council thereof,
and in particular shall well, truly and faithfully collect all
moneys that it may be his duty to collect or that he may be
authorized or directed by said Mayor and Council to collect;
and if he shall well, truly and faithfully account for and
pay over to the said Mayor and Council or on their order to
