CHAPTER 408.
AN ACT to provide for the payment by the County Commis-
sioners of Garrett County, Maryland, to the Oakland Volun-
teer Fire Department, so long as said fire department re-
mains an active fire fighting organization, the sum of Six
Hundred Dollars ($600. 00) annually for its benefit and for
certain purposes, and to levy said amount on the assessable
property of said County, and to provide for the date on
which said payment shall be made.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the County Commissioners of Garrett County
be and they are hereby authorized, empowered and directed to
pay the sum of Six Hundred Dollars ($600. 00) annually to
the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department, so long as said fire
department remains an active fire fighting organization, for its
benefit, said sum of money to be used by the said fire depart-
ment for the purchase, repair or maintenance of fire fighting
equipment.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That said payment shall
be made on the first day of September in each and every year
by the County Commissioners of Garrett County.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That the County Com-
missioners of Garrett County be and the same are hereby
authorized, directed and empowered to levy the said sum of
Six Hundred Dollars ($600. 00) annually for the above pur-
pose on the assessable property of said County. Before the
County Commissioners shall be required to pay the aforesaid
sum of money, the said Commissioners shall have the power to
require the officers of said fire department to appear before
them and show to the satisfaction of said Commissioners that
any sums of money paid by the said Commissioners to the
said fire department under this Act have been expended for
the purposes set forth in this Act, and also that said fire de-
partment is an active fire fighting organization. In the event
said fire department hereinbefore mentioned ceases to remain
an active fire fighting organization, or has not used the moneys
appropriated to it for the sole purposes set forth in this Act,
then this Act shall become null and void.
SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1927.
