be and the same are hereby repealed, and re-enacted with
amendments, so as to read as follows; —

THE QUALIFICATIONS, POWERS AND DUTIES OF MAYOR,

SEC. 5. The inhabitants of the Town of Brunswick qualified to
vote at any Municipal election held therein shall on the first day
in August, 1916, and on the same day and month in every second
year thereafter, as hereinbefore provided, elect by ballot a per-
son of known integrity, experience and sound judgment, at least
thirty years of age, a citizen of the United States and for not
less than two years next preceding the election a resident of
said town and assessed with property in said town to the amount
of $500. 00 and who has paid taxes thereon for two years pre-
ceding his election, to be Mayor of the Town of Brunswick.

In case of vacancy in the office of Mayor, by death, resigna-
tion or permanent disqualification, the Mayor Pro tem. shall
discharge the duties of the Mayor until his successor is elected
and qualified. In case of a vacancy in the office of Mayor or
Councilman by death, resignation, or permanent disqualifica-
tion the Council shall call a special election to fill such vacancy,
said election to be held within sixty days after such vacancy
occurs.

In case of sickness or necessary absence of the Mayor, the
Mayor pro tem. shall be ex officio Mayor of the town of Brun-
swick during the continuance of said sickness or necessary ab-
sence.

The term of the Mayor shall commence on the first Tuesday
in September succeeding his election and continue for two years,
and until his successor shall be elected and qualified.

The Mayor by virtue of his office shall be the Chief Executive
Officer of the town. He shall see that the ordinances are duly
and faithfully executed and observed. He shall exercise a gen-
eral supervision over the various Municipal activities and shall
report to the Council the condition of Municipal affairs. It
shall be his duty to make such suggestions as are proper for the
wise, prudent and economical government and management of
the town. The Mayor shall preside at all meetings of the Coun-
cil; he may debate all questions before said Council and in case
of a tie vote, except in passage of ordinances, he shall decide the
same; he shall have the power to veto any order, resolution or
ordinance incurring any debt, laying out, or in any wise ap-
propriating any money, or which shall in any way whatsoever
affect the interests and welfare of the Town of Brunswick; such
order, resolution or ordinance, when passed by the Council shall
be sent to the Mayor for his approval; the Mayor may return
the same with his approval or disapproval written thereon and
signed by him to the said meeting at which it was passed, or he
