1672 VETOES.

POLICE BONUS PAY.

(Chapter 183)

House Bill No. 75 provides that the bonus pay of police-
men shall be included in computing their pensions.

This bonus pay consists of an extra allowance which is in-
tended to induce and reward good officers for remaining on
the active list. It was never intended to affect the pension
system, and the Court of Appeals has so decided. To include
it in the pension fund would result in numerous inequalities in
the pay which the men would receive, or else in discriminatory
payments. For these reasons the bill will be vetoed.

ABATEMENT OF ACTIONS FOR PERSONAL

INJURIES.

(Chapter 223)

The purpose of this bill (S. B. No. 64) is to make actions
for personal injuries survive the death of the defendant.

Aside from the merits of this question, the bill is not clearly
drawn, is confusing in a number of particulars and would
lead to uncertainty and law suits.

For these reasons it will be vetoed.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY.

(Chapter 263)

House Bill No. 380 relates to the appointment of the Court
Stenographer in Anne Ariindel County.

I am approving another bill on the same subject, House Bill
No. 624, which meets the approval of the County Judge, so
that House Bill No. 380 will be vetoed.

TRANSPORTATION OF SCHOOL CHILDREN.

(Chapter 280)

House Bill No. 510 directs the School Board of Kent County
to furnish free transportation to children to and from high
schools of the County.
