Maryland, title "Almshouses and Trustees of the Poor," be
and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

SEC. 3. It shall be the duty of the County Commissioners and
Trustees of the Poor of the counties of this State to place all
such pauper children who are in their charge in some respect-
able family in the State, or in some educational institution or
home for children or under the care of some other child car-
ing agency or agencies which agency or agencies previously
shall have been formally approved by the Board, of State Aid
and Charities or to maintain them in their own homes,
and it shall also be the duty of said Trustees of
the Poor of the counties of the State, or an agent
or agents to be appointed by them for the purpose, to visit
such children not less than once in every six months and to
make all needful inquiries as to their treatment and welfare,
and to report to the Board of Trustees or County Commis-
sioners making such disposition of said children. The County
Commissioners and/or Trustees of the poor shall place all such
children with a family, institution or agency duly authorized
as aforesaid, under the control of a person or persons of the
same religious faith or persuasion as the said child; and the
wish or request of the parent or guardian as to the place of
commitment shall be respected unless good cause to the con-
trary be shown. The said County Commissioners shall have
power to place foundlings in any proper institution or agency
qualified as aforesaid. The County Commissioners of the re-
spective counties of this State are hereby authorized to levy
and collect such an amount as is in their opinion may be neces-
sary and proper to carry out the povisions of this section.

CHAPTER 690.

AN ACT to add two new sections to Article 23 of the Anno-
tated Code of Public General Laws of Maryland, title "Cor-
porations," sub-title "Municipal Corporations," said new sec-
tions to be designated as Sections 193A and 193B, and to
follow immediately after Section 193 of said Article, author-
izing the sale, lease, exchange or other disposition of munic-
ipally owned gas and electric plants, upon certain conditions,
and subject to the approval of the Public Service Commis-
sion of Maryland.
