efficiency of the Fire Department of Hagerstown may require it,
to retire upon the recommendation of the Chief Fire Marshall
any regular driver, tiller or chauffeur of any of the fire appa-
ratus of said city, appointed by the various Fire Companies
and paid by the city, and to pay him for life a sum of money
on monthly installments, equal to one-half of the compensa-
tion allowed him at the date of his retirement, provided, how-
ever, that such regular driver, tiller or chauffeur shall have
served faithfully as a driver, tiller or chauffeur in the fire de-
partment for not less than fifteen years or he shall have been
permanently disabled in the discharge of his duty as driver,
tiller or chauffeur in the fire department of Hagerstown. The
Chief Fire Marshal shall, before making such recommendations,
procure and file with the Mayor and Council of Hagerstown, a
certificate signed by at least two reputable physicians of said
city, that the person proposed to be retired has been thoroughly
examined by them and that he is incapable of performing active
duty in the capacity in which he is employed.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect on June 1, 1927.

CHAPTER 106.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 119
of Article 22 of the Public Local Laws of Maryland (1910
Edition), title "Washington County, " sub-title "Crier and
Doorkeeper, " providing; for bailiffs of the Circuit Court for
said County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 119 of Article 22 of the Public Local Laws
of Maryland (1910 Edition), title "Washington County, " sub-
title "Crier and Doorkeeper, " be and the same is hereby re-
pealed and re-enacted with amendments to read as follows:

119. The Circuit Court of Washington County be and it is
hereby authorized and empowered to appoint three bailiffs to
said court, two to be door or gate-keepers and one to be designat-
ed by said court to have charge of the library, said bailiffs to be
in regular attendance upon the court, to be under its control
and supervision and each to receive the sum of $4. 00 per day
for each day he may be employed as such. Upon a certificate
from the clerk of the Circuit Court for said county of the num-
