SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from June 1, 1924.

CHAPTER 329.
AN ACT to settle and cause to be dismissed the litigation now
pending between the State of Maryland and Thomas W.
Simmons, former Secretary of State.
WHEREAS, By various Acts of the General Assembly there
have been received by the Secretary of State certain sums,
which said amounts were deemed by the General Assembly to
be compensation to him for the extra work and labor which
the said Acts respectively imposed upon him, and which were
accepted and retained by said Secretary of State in good faith
as such compensation; and
WHEREAS, suit has been brought in the Circuit Court for Dor-
chester County, In No. 3 Appearances, January Term, 1922,
against Thomas W. Simmons, former Secretary of State, to
recover the amount so retained by him under and by virtue
of said Acts of the General Assembly; therefore
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That upon payment of all Court costs that may have
accrued by reason of the prosecution of the suit of the State
against Thomas W. Simmons, in the Circuit Court for Dor-
chester County, that the suit so brought and impending, shall
be by the Attorney-General of the State entered "agreed and
Settled, " and any judgment rendered in said suit entered
''settled".
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1924.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 216
of Article 12 of the Code of Public Local Daws of Maryland,
title "Garrett County", sub-title ''State's Attorney, " as
said section was amended by Chapter 92 of the Acts of
1922.
