CHAPTER 257.

AN ACT to empower and authorize the County Commissioners
of Wicomico County. Maryland, to borrow money and issue
notes therefor, and provide for the payment of same, to be
used for the payment of the work and materials already done
and used, and for repairing and constructing public roads in
said county.

WHEREAS, The increase in costs of materials and labor used
in the repairing and building of public roads has exhausted the
amount levied by said County Commissioners in the year 1923,
for those purposes; and

WHEREAS, The severity of the winter has made it necessary
to have much work done on said roads to render them safe for
travel, but there are not funds in hand to pay for same, and
it is necessary to provide for the purpose at once; therefore

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the County Commissioners of Wicomico County,
Maryland, be and they are hereby empowered and authorized, to
borrow money as they need it, not to exceed in the aggregate
twenty-five thousand dollars ($25, 000. 00) for the payment of
the work and materials already done and used, and for the
purpose of building and repairing the public roads of said
county. The payment of money so borrowed to be secured by
the note or notes of said County Commissioners, and to be
signed by the President of said County Commissioners and
countersigned by the Treasurer of Wicomico County, and bear
interest from date of same, said notes to be paid out of the lew
to be made in the year 1924.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the said County
Commissioners are hereby empowered and directed to levy
upon the assessable property of said county in the levy to be
made in the year 1924, a sufficient sum of money to pay the
note or notes so issued and the interest thereon, same to be col-
lected as other taxes are now collected in said county.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That should the road
fund levied for the years 1925 and 1926 be insufficient or is
exhausted before the levies for 1925 and 1926 are made, and
the roads should become in dangerous condition and it should
become necessary to maintain and keep in proper condition the
public roads in Wicomico County until the levy is made and
available for said years, the County Commissioners of Wi-
