the building aforesaid as a postoffice, and in order to meet the
requirements of the Postoffice Department and comply with the
terms and conditions of said lease it became and was necessary
for the said Chevy Chase Citizens' Committee to make cer-
tain additions, alterations and improvements in and about the
said Library and Postoffice building, and to provide additional
furniture and equipment therefor: and
WHEREAS, The said Chevy Chase Citizens' Committee, in
pursuance of the authority conferred upon it by the said Act
of the General Assembly, approved April 18, 1916, has here-
tofore made and executed certain promissory notes secured by
deed of trust on the land and premises known as Block Thirty
seven in Section 2, Chevy Chase, and in the judgment of said
Citizens' Committee it is desirable that said existing loan may
be paid or merged with the loan authorized to be made under
the provisions of this Act, and to provide moneys with which
to pay for the construction of further additions and alterations
to said Library and Postoffice building for general community
purposes.
Now, therefore, be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland:
1. That the said Chevy Chase Citizens' Committee be and
it hereby is authorized and empowered to borrow, at legal rate
of interest, not to exceed the sum of twenty-five thousand dol-
lars ($25. 000), or so much thereof as may be necessary, to
pay the existing promissory notes heretofore made by said
Citizens' Committee, secured by deed of trust on the land and
premises known as Block Thirty-seven, Section 2, Chevy Chase,
and to cause said property to be released from the encum-
brance thereby created: to pay for the said additions, altera-
tions and improvements in and about the said Library and
Postoffice building, and the equipment thereof, and to pay the
cost of such other and further additions and alterations as may
hereafter be made to the said Library and Postoffice building,
and to make, execute and deliver therefor its promissory
notes, bonds or other evidences of indebtedness, to be secured
by mortgage or deed of trust upon the land and premises known
as Block Thirty-seven, Section 2, Chevy Chase, heretofore pur-
chased and acquired and now held and managed by the said
Chevy Chase Citizens' Committee under and by virtue of the
Acts of the General Assembly aforesaid.
