CHAPTER 33.
AN ACT authorizing and directing the County Commissioners
of Baltimore County to pay to James E. Kleeman, former
patrolman of the Police -Department of Baltimore County,
a pension of fifty dollars ($50. 00) per month.
SECTION 1. WHEREAS, James E. Kleeman of Pikesville,
Baltimore County, Maryland, was a police officer of said coun-
ty from the year 1900 to the year 1919; and during that period
of time served his county and State with integrity, persever-
ance and faithfulness, and participated in numerous important
arrests; and on numerous occasions was openly commended by
the public authorities for his energy, loyalty and daring in
bringing divers notorious and desperate offenders to the bar of
justice, and on one occasion at a public ceremony on June 12th,
1901, he was presented by the Board of County Commission-
ers of Baltimore County with a gold medal for exceptional
distinguished service and bravery in making an arrest; and
WHEREAS, In 1919, when a large section of Baltimore
County was annexed and made a part of Greater Baltimore,
the said James E. Kleeman, on account of the post which he
had patrolled during the greater part of his career as a peace
officer, being part of the territory annexed thereto, and desir-
ing to round out his years of duty and services on the post
which he had patrolled for so many years, was voluntarily
transferred to duty with the Police Department of Baltimore
City; and
WHEREAS. The said James E. Kleeman did at that time
understand that upon his retirement from the said police force
of Baltimore City after service for a specified number of
years, that the years spent on the police force of Baltimore
County would be taken into consideration so that he would be
entitled to a pension under the police pension laws of Balti-
more City; and
WHEREAS, In April, 1921, the said James E. Kleeman did
become disabled through physical ailments and disabilities,
and before serving such length of time with the Police de-
partment of Baltimore City as would entitle him to a pension
under the police pension laws of Baltimore City; and
WHEREAS, The said physical ailments and disabilities were
contracted by the said James E. Kleeman during the period
