the interest accrued thereon, and the said Mayor and Council
of Crisfield is hereby authorized and empowered to apply the
said sum to the payment of the existing outstanding indebted-
ness of the said municipal corporation.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1st, 1924.

CHAPTER 95.

AN ACT to authorize and empower the Mayor and Council of
Salisbury to levy a tax for the maintenance and employment
of a band for musical purposes for the benefit of the public,
provided said special question is submitted to the duly qual-
ified voters of the City of Salisbury and adopted or agreed
to by a majority vote of those participating in said election.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Mayor and Council of Salisbury may, when
authorized, as hereinafter provided, levy each year a tax of not
to exceed five cents 011 each one hundred dollars of the assessed
valuation of the City of Salisbury, for the purpose of provid-
ing a fund for the maintenance or employment, under munic-
ipal control, of a band for musical purposes for the benefit of
the public.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That said authority
shall be initiated by a petition signed by ten per centum of the
legal voters of the City of Salisbury, as shown by the city
registration books at the last regular municipal election; that
said petition shall be filed with the Mayor and Council of
Salisbury, and shall request that the following question be sub-
mitted to the voters of said city, to wit: "Shall a tax of not
exceeding five cents on each one hundred dollars be levied each
year for the purpose of furnishing a Band Fund?"; that when
such petition is filed, the Mayor and Council of Salisbury shall
cause said question to be submitted to the voters of said city
at the first following general municipal election or at a special
election to be called by the Mayor and Council for the said
purpose upon the same notice and subject to the same laws as
the general election held by said municipality.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That said levy shall be
deemed authorized if a majority of the votes cast at said elec-
