for trial any person accused of violating any of the traffic ordi-
nances of Baltimore City, and shall have concurrent jurisdic-
diction with Justices of the Peace, committing magistrates or
police justices throughout the State outside of Baltimore City,
to hear and determine all complaints of violations of the
Motor Vehicle Laws of the State in those cases where it is
convenient for the accused to have such complaint heard and
determined in Baltimore City. The jurisdiction, powers and
duties heretofore vested in and required of Justices of the
Peace in Baltimore City under Section 158 of this sub-title
shall hereafter be exclusively vested in and required of the
Justices of the Peace of the Traffic Court. Said Justices
shall, during the hours when said Traffic Court is required to
be in session, transact no other business except the business
required of them by the provisions of this sub-title. The said
Justices of the Peace of the Traffic Court, and any Justices
who may be designated to sit in their absence, shall have the
power and authority to enforce obedience to their orders and
judgments by attachment, and to inflict summary punishment
for contempt of court by a fine not exceeding in any one case
the sum of twenty-five dollars; all of which fines shall be paid
to the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles in the same manner
as other fines; and imprisonment for default in payment of
such fines shall be imposed to the same extent as in the case
of other fines; provided, however, that the power aforesaid to
punish for contempt shall not be construed to extend to any
cases arising in the Traffic Court, except the cases specifically
set forth and provided for in Section 4 of Article 27 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland as within the power of the sev-
eral courts of this State to inflict summary punishments for
contempt of court.

The Police Commissioner for the City of Baltimore shall
designate four or more members of the police force of the
rank of sergeants, with the right of the Commissioner of
Police to promote their rank to lieutenant in his discretion,
but who shall, however, in any event, receive the salary of
lieutenants while acting in said Traffic Court, one of whom
shall be assigned to each of the parts or sessions of the Traffic
Court herein provided, and who shall execute the powers and
directions of the Justice presiding at said session. In addi-
tion to the number of station house clerks now provided for
by law, said Police Commissioner is hereby authorized and
directed to employ such number of additional clerks as may •
