CHAPTER 540.
AN ACT to authorize the County Commissioners of Queen
Anne's County and the County Commissioners of Caroline
County to borrow money and to issue notes therefor for
the purpose of opening the Long Marsh Ditch, and to
provide for the levying and collecting of taxes to pay the
interest on and to redeem said notes when due.
WHEREAS, the Long Marsh Ditch, being the dividing line for
several miles between Queen Anne's and Caroline Counties, has
not been opened or cleaned out for a great many years; and
WHEREAS, many thousands of acres of land are rendered unfit
for cultivation as a result of the said Long Marsh Ditch being
stopped up by accumulations of trees, sand bars and mud; and
WHEREAS, as a result of this condition many very valuable
farms have become almost worthless to their owners and are as-
sessed justly at a very low rate, being unproductive both to their
owners and to the Counties and State; therefore
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the County Commissioners of Queen Anne's County
be and they are hereby authorized to borrow the sum
of five thousand ($5, 000) dollars and to issue the note or
notes of said County Commissioners immediately after June 1,
1924, the said note or notes to be signed by the Board of County
Commissioners and countersigned by the Clerk of said Board,
and to bear interest from the date of issuing or making of same.
The said note or notes and the interest thereon shall be paid out
of the regular levies to be made in the years 1924. 1925, 1926,
1927 and 1928.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the County Com-
missioners of Caroline County be and they are hereby author-
ized to borrow the sum of three thousand ($3, 000) dollars
and to issue the note or notes of said County Commis-
sioners immediately after June 1, 1924, the said note or notes
to be signed by the Board of County Commissioners and coun-
tersigned by the Clerk of said Board, and to bear interest from
