attending such other duties as shall be necessary to conduct
the election provided for in Section 21 of this Act, and in the
event that this Charter is adopted at the election held on the
12th day of June, 1924, provided for in Section 21 of this
Act, then in that event, the said Richard Wood shall continue
to act in the capacity above designated at the succeeding elec-
tion held for the purpose of electing the officers of said town,
and the said Richard Wood shall continue to act as Town Clerk
until his successor shall have been duly appointed and quali-
fied. Provided, further, that in the event of the death, resig-
nation or refusal to act of one or more of the hereinbefore pro-
vided Judges and Clerks of Election, then in that event it
shall be the duty of the said Richard Wood to fill such vacancy
or vacancies.

CHAPTER 509.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 5 of
Chapter 321 of the Acts of 1916, entitled "An Act author-
izing and directing the Governor of this State to designate
one of the Justices of the Peace appointed in and for the
Third Election District of Cecil County as a police justice,
and defining the duties and fixing the compensation of such
police justice, " as said section was amended by Chapter 407
of the Acts of 1922, increasing the compensation of said
justice.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 5 of Chapter 407 of the Acts of 1916, re-
lating to the police justice for the Third Election District of
Cecil County, as said section was amended by Chapter 407 of
the Acts of 1922, be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted
with amendments to read as follows:
5. The said police justice shall receive as compensation
for his services the sum of twelve hundred dollars per
year, or the proportionate part thereof, so long as he shall
continue to act as such police justice, said salary to be paid
by the County Commissioners of Cecil County in equal monthly
installments, and shall be paid as full compensation for services
as police justice; and no police justice shall charge any fee
other than provided by law or receive any gratuity for making
any commitment, granting any release, or the performance of
