or both institutions for a period of twenty years, of which the
last ten years shall have been continuous, shall reach the age
of sixty-four years, such employee shall be forthwith retired
by the Board of Welfare whether or not the employee in ques-
tion files an application for retirement, but the Board of Wel-
fare may, in its discretion, delay such retirement for such
time as it may deem proper, and in all retirements made under
the provisions of this section the employee in question shall
receive the same rate of pay as provided in Section 658 hereof.
660. It shall be the duty of the Director of Welfare to
notify the Governor promptly of all retirements under the
provisions of this Act, and all such retirements shall be subject
to revocation by the Governor at any time. In case of revo-
cation by the Governor, he shall notify the Board of Wel-
fare, and thereupon the retirement and all payments on ac-
count shall cease. The Board of Welfare shall also have power
to revoke such retirements at any time and for any cause which
it may deem sufficient.
661. All applicants for retirement under the provisions of
this Act and all employees eligible for retirement under Sec-
tion 659 hereof shall be subject to medical examination by
the regular physicians of the Maryland House of Correction
or the Maryland Penitentiary, or by any other physician the
Board of Welfare may select, and all such applicants shall fur-
nish such other evidence affecting their application for retire-
ment as the Board of Welfare may require.
662. It shall be the duty of the Director of Welfare not
later than the first day of December, 1926, and biennially
thereafter, to certify to the Governor of the State a full record
of all persons retired under the provisions of this Act, whose
retirements have not been revoked by the Governor, and the
rate of pay respectively awarded them, and also an estimate
of the sum required for future retirements in accordance with
the provisions of this Act until the next budget appropriation
becomes operative, and the items required to meet the retire-
ments already made, together with such further sum as the
Governor may deem necessary to meet said future retirements,
shall be included in the budget submitted by the Governor to
the General Assembly. Payments to retired employees under
the provisions of this Act shall be paid as other salaries are
paid, bill the Board of Welfare shall not make retirements that
