third tuesday in March being the twentieth day of Said Month Anno Dom. One
Thousand Seven hundred and thirty two Came John Gresham Gent high Sherrif
of Said County and made return of Said writ to the Court here thereof endorsed as
foll. viz.t Cepi Corpus  p Jn.o Gresham Sherf

    Kent County fs.t  The Jurors for the right Honourable the Lord proprietarie
that now is for Kent County afd upon their Oath do present that Martha Davis
late of S.t Pauls Parish in the County afd Spinster the tenth day of June Anno
Domini Seventeen hundred thirty & two at the parish afd in the County afd
within the Jurisdicion of this Court did Committ fornication with a Certain
person to the Jurors afd unknown and did permit the Same unknown
person then and there to have Carnal knowledge of her body and to beget
then and there a Bastard Child on the body of her the Same Martha to the high
Displeasure of Almighty God to the Evil Example of all others in Such case
offending Contrary to the peace of the Said Lord Proprietarie that now is his
good rule and Government and against the form of the Act of Assembly in
that case made and provided                T francis Cler pac.

    The Same are endorsed viz A true bill p James Moore foreman

    The afd Martha being called came and in her proper person Saith that
She Cannot gainsay the Indictment afd So as afd against her brought nor but
that She is guilty of the premisses above upon him imposed as by the afd
Indictment alledged and thereupon Submits to the Court    Therefore
it is Considered by the Justices here to wit at Kent County At the Court
House in the Town of Chester in Said County on the third tuesday in March being
the twentieth day of Said Month Anno Dom One Thousand Seven hundred
and thirty two  That the afd Martha Davis pay the Sum of thirty Shillings
Current money of the province of Maryland as a fine for Committing the
offence afd as afd alledged  And also the Sum of two hundred and
fifty Nine pounds of Tobacco Cost accrueing on the premisses afd to the
officers of this Court

    Ordered by this Court that Security be gave for fees.  The fine
paid &c.a

    Thereupon John Cooper of Said County Planter comes into Court
and Saith that he will pay the afd to the officers of this Court
and thereupon the Same Martha is Discharged
