on the back of the preceeding Indictment was endorsed as foll. viz.t A True bill Roger
Hicks fforeman

    And the afd Mary Spearman in her proper person comes and Saith that
She cannot gainsay the Indictment afd So as afd against her brought nor but that
She is guilty of the premisses above upon her Imposed as by the afd Indictment
it is alledged and thereupon Submits to the Court    Therefore it is Considered
by the Justices here to wit At the Court House in the Town of Chester in Said
County on the third tuesday in March being the Sixteenth day of Said Month
Anno Dom. 1730  That the afd Mary Spearman Serve for her offence
of Comitting fornication with a Negro and haveing a Mulatto Child deliverd
of her body the Space of Seven Years the punishment for the offence
afd According to Act of Assembly in Such case made &c.a    And also pay
the Sum of two hundred forty four pounds Tobacco Costs accrueing on
the premisses afd to the officers of this Court

    Ordered by the Court here That M.r Joseph Young Sherf of Kent County
keep the afd Mary Spearman in Safe Custody untill She the Said Mary
Spearman shall be disposed of for the Seven Years as afd and also the Costs afd

teh Lord proprietary that now is for the County afd upon their
Oath do present that Phebe Gilbert late of Shrewsbury
parish in the County afd Spinster the tenth day of Aprill Anno Dom. Seventeen
hundred and thirty at the parish afd in the County afd within the Jurisdicion of this
Court did Committ fornication with a Certain person to the Jurors afd unknown and did
permit the Same unknown Person then and there to have Carnal knowledge of her
body and to beget then and there a Bastard Child on the body of her the Same Phebe
to the high Displeasure of Almighty God to the Evil Example of all others in
Such case offending Contrary to the peace of the Said Lord proprietarie that now
is his good Rule and Government and against the form of the Act of Assembly
in that case made and provided                            T francis Cler. pac.
