                                            March Court 1730                                        185

March being the Sixteenth day of Said Month Anno Dom. Seventeen hundred and thirty That
the afd Loveday Turner have Nine Lashes on her bare back tell the blood appear
as a punishment for the Crime afd  And also pay the Sum of two hundred and
Ninety Pounds Tobacco Cost accrueing on the premisses afd to the officers of this
Court

    It is also Considered by the Justices afd the Same day last mentioned that
the Sherrif of Kent County take the afd Loveday Turner into his custody and
Execute the punishment in the Judgment afd Specified and afterwards
to bring her into Court againe  Of which precept to wit Joseph Young
gent high Sherrife of Kent County makes return on the day & year
last Said that he hath Executed the punishment in the afd Judgment
and also hath here the Said Loveday Turner before the Court

    Ordered by the Court here That Surety be gave for the fees afd thereupon
Came into Court William Eland of the Same County County planter and did
assinne the afd fees  Thereupon the Same Loveday was disch.d
Ordered by the Court here That the Same Loveday Turner prove the
begetter of the Child afd  Thereupon She proves a Certain Edward Harris
a Taylor belonging to Cap.t Laramore was the begetter of her afd Child &c.a

afd upon their Oath do present that Mary Spearman
Late of shewsbury parish in the County afd spinster
the tenth day of April Anno Domini Seventeen hundred & thirty at the parish
afd in the the County afd within the Jurisdiction of this Court Did Commit fornication
with a Certain negro person ^to^ the Jurors afd unknown & did permit the same unknown Negro
person then & there to have Carnal knowledge of her body & to beget then & there a Basterd
Mulatto Child on the body of her the same Mary to the high Displeasure of Almighty
Good to the Evil Example of all Others in such Case offending Contrary to the peace &
of the said Lord Propry that now is his good Rule & Government & against y.e form of the act of
Assembly in that Case made & Provided
