BOUNDARIES

OF THE TWENTY WARDS IN THE CITY OF BALTIMORE.

THE undersigned, duly appointed by the Governor of Maryland, Commissioners under an act
of the General Assembly of Maryland, past das December session, 1844, chapter 282, entitled,
"An act to provide for the division of the city of Baltimore into twenty wards, and for other pur-
poses," three of said commissioners being residents west, and the other two east of Jones's falls—
hereby make a return, under their hands and seals, that they have divided the said city of Balti-
more into twenty wards in accordance with the said law, and that they have located eight of
said wards east of Jones's falls, and the remaining twelve of said wards west of Jones's falls; which,
said eight wards east of Jones's falls, they have designated by the numbers one, two, three, four,
five, six, seven and eight, respectively; and which said twelve wards west of Jones's falls they
have designated by the numbers nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, sev-
enteen, eighteen, nineteen, and twenty, respectively. The metes and bounds are as follow:

1st ward.—Beginning where a line drawn along the center of Broadway would intersect the
water of the north-west branch of Patapsco river, and running thence northwardly along the cen-
ter of Broadway to a line drawn along the center of Bank street, thence eastwardly along the cen-
ter of Wolf street to a line drawn along the center of Fayette street, thence eastwardly along the
center of Fayette street to a line drawn along the center of the Philadelphia turnpike road, thence
eastwardly along the center of said road to the eastern boundary line of the city, thence south-
wardly along said line to the water of the harbor, thence along said water to place of beginning.

2nd Ward.—Beginning where a line drawn along the center of Broadway would intersect the
water of the north-west branch of the Patapsco river, and running thence northwardly along the
center of Broadway to a line drawn along the center of Bank street, and thence westwardly along
the center of Bank street to a line drawn along the cenier of Exeter street, thence northwardly
along the center of Exeter street to a line drawn along the center of Fawn street, and thence west-
wardly along the center of Fawn street to the center of Jones's falls, and thence southwardly along
the center of Jones's falls to the water of the city dock, and thence bounding on the water of the
said dock and of the north-west branch of the Patapsco river to the place of beginning.

3rd ward.—Beginning where a line drawn along the center of Wolf street would intersect a
line drawn along the center of Bank street, running thence northwardly along the center of Wolf
street to a line drawn along the center of Fayette street, thence westwardly along the center of
Fayette street to a line drawn along the center of Canal street, thence southwardly along the cen-
ter of Canal street to a line drawn along the center of Bank street, and thence eastwardly along
the center of Bank street to the place of beginning.

4th ward.—Beginning where a line drawn along the center of Canal street would intersect a
line drawn a long the center of Bank street, running thence northwardly along the center of Canal
sreet to a line drawn along the center of Fayette street, thence westwardly along the center of
Fayette street to the center of Jones's falls, thence southwardly along the center of Jones's falls,
to a line drawn along the center of Fawn street, thence eastwardly along the center of Fawn
street to a line drawn along the center of Exeter street, thence southwardly along the center of
Exeter street to a line drawn along the center of Bank street, thence along the center of Bank
street to the place of beginning.

5th ward.—Beginning where a line drawn along the center of East street would intersect a line
drawn along the center of Fayette street, and running thence northwardly along the center of
East street to a line drawn alongthe center of Hillen street, thence southwardly along the center
of Hillen street to the center of Jones's falls, thence southwardly along the center of Jones's falls
to a line drawn along the center of e Fayette street, and thence eastwardly along the center of
e. Fayette street to the place of beginning.

6th ward.—Beginning where a line drawn along the center of Fayette street would intersect a
line drawn along the center of Exeter street, and running thence northwardly along the center of
East street to a line drawn along the center of Hillen street, thence northeastwardly along the
center of Hillen street to a line drawn along the center of Ensor street, thence northeastwardly
along the center of Ensor street to a line drawn along the center of Madison street, thence east-
wardly along the center of Madison street to a line drawn along the center of Stirling street, thence
northwardly along the center of Stirling street to a line drawn along the center of Chew street,
thence eastwardly along the center of Chew street to a line drawn along the center of the Bel
Air avenue, thence southwestwardly along the center of Bel Air avenue to a line drawn along
the center of Canal street to a line drawn alongthe center of Fayette street, thence westwardly
along the center of Fayette street to the place of beginning.

7th ward.— Beginning where a line drawn along the center of Canal street would intersect a
line drawn along the center of e. Fayette street, and thence running eastwardly along the center
of Fayette street to a line drawn along the center of the Philadelphia road, thence eastwardly along
the center of said road to the eastern boundary lines of the city, thence along said line north-
