alternate year thereafter, elect by ballot one citizen for Bur-
gess and one citizen for Assistant Burgess of said town, both
of whom shall be citizens of the United States and five years
residents of said town next preceding the election, and at least
twenty-five years of age; they shall take the oath of office as
hereinafter prescribed for town officers, and remain in office
until their successors are elected and qualified.

CHAPTER 41.

AN ACT to authorize and direct the County Commissioners
of Queen Anne's County, Maryland, to borrow the sum of
thirty-three thousand dollars ($33, 000. 00) on the credit of
said county for the purpose of paying the deficiency now
existing and due by the Board of Education for Queen
Anne's County and to issue bonds therefor, and to levy on
the assessable property in Queen Anne's County an annual
tax sufficient to pay said bonds as they mature, and to pay
the interest thereon as it becomes due.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That for the purpose aforesaid the County Commissioners
of Queen Anne's County are hereby authorized, empowered
and directed to borrow on the credit of said county the sum
of thirty-three thousand dollars ($33, 000. 0), and to issue bonds
or coupon bonds therefor in the sum of one thousand dollars
each, to be signed by the President of the Board of County
Commissioners, to be attested by the Clerk of the Board of
County Commissioners, and to have the corporate seal of said
County Commissioners affixed thereto, bearing interest not
exceeding five and one-half per centum, in the discretion of
the County Commissioners for Queen Anne's County, payable
semi-annually on the first day of January and the first day of
July in each and every year thereafter until the same are
paid.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the proceeds of the sale
of said thirty-three thousand dollars ($33, 000. 00), worth (par
value) of said bonds, shall be paid over to the Board of Edu-
cation for Queen Anne's County, and shall be applied by the
said Board of Education for Queen Anne's County to paying
the deficiency existing in running the schools of said county
as of July thirty-first, nineteen hundred and twenty-one.
