County shall not be entitled to demand or be paid any further
or other compensation for the rendition of any service incident
to their office than such as may be fixed by agreement between
them and the Sheriff, approved by the County Commissioners
of Montgomery County. That said Sheriff shall pay to said
deputies a monthly compensation and may assign and desig-
nate the same for such territory and work, and at such time
and at such compensation as the Sheriff may deem proper with
the consent and approval of the County Commissioners.
Section 533C. The Sheriff of said County shall hold his
office at the Court House, and shall attend at his said office at
all time, Sunday excepted, in person or by Deputy for the trans-
action of business under the penalty of $40.00, for each month
he shall fail to comply herewith to be recovered by indictment
in the Circuit Court for the use of said county.
Section 533D. It shall be the duty of the County Commis-
sioners to pay for all supplies and provisions necessary, in their
judgment for the support and maintenance of all persons com-
mitted to the jail, said supplies and provisions to be purchased
by the Sheriff and placed at said jail and the bills for same
shall be presented by the Sheriff to said County Commissioners
for approval and payment, provided however that the said
County Commissioners are hereby directed and prohibited from
approving or allowing the payment to the Sheriff of any claim
for food or provisions furnished for the keep and board of pris-
oners where the amount claimed is in excess of thirty-five cents
per day, for each prisoner actually committed to the jail of said
county, and the County Commissioners shall furnish all fuel
and light needed for said jail and shall annually levy and pay
to the warden of said jail such salary as the County Commis-
sioners may deem proper and commensurate, the warden to be
appointed by the Sheriff and to be approved by the County Com-
missioners and the Sheriff shall have the authority and power
to appoint such assistants with the approval of the County Com-
missioners as may be necessary, said assistants to be paid such
salarv as the County Commissioners may direct.
Section 534. It shall be the duty of the Sheriff to keep a
correct and full statement or schedule of all persons committed
to the jail, showing the length of time and the charge upon
which they are committed, and the name of the officer, which
statement or schedule, together with all books, papers and com-
mitments kept by him pertaining to prisoners in the jail, shall
