CHAPTER 307.

AN ACT to add one hundred and sixty-one new sections to
Article 89 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, title "Statis-
tics and Information as to Branches of Industry"; said new
sections to be under the sub-title "Bureau of Mines," to be
known as Sections 16 to 176, inclusive, and to follow imme-
diately after Section 15 of said Article, to provide a code of
laws to protect the health and safety of persons employed in
and about the bituminous coal mines of Maryland, and
to protect and preserve property connected therewith, and to
establish in the State Board of Labor and Statistics a bureau
to be known as the Bureau of Mines, to define the functions,
duties and powers of said bureau and for other purposes;
and to repeal Sections 196, 197 (as amended by Chapter 410
of the Acts of 1916), 198, 199 (as amended by Chapter 410
of the Acts of 1916), 200, 201, 202, 203, 204, 205, 206,
207, 208, 209, 209a, 209b, 209c, 209d, 209e, 209f, 209g,
209h (as amended by Chapter 361 of the Acts of 1910),
209i, 209j, 209k, 2091, 209m, 209n. 209o, 209p (as amended
by Chapter 243 of the Acts of 1904), and Section 209q
down to and including sub-section F of said section of Arti-
cle 1 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title
"Allegany County," sub-title "Mining and Mine Inspector,"
and to repeal Sections 150, 151 (as amended by Chapter
410 of the Acts of 1916), 152, 153 (as amended by Chap-
ter 410 of the Acts of 1916), 154, 155, 156, 157, 158, 159_r
160, 161, 162, 163, 164, 164a, 164b, 164c, 164d, 164e,
164f, 164g (as amended by Chapter 361 of the Acts of
1910), 164h, 164i, 164j, 164k, 1641, 164m, 164n, 164o (as
amended by Chapter 243 of the Acts of 1904), and Section
164p down to and including sub-section F of said section of
Article 12 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland,
title "Garrett County," sub-title "Manufactures and Mines."

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That 161 new sections are hereby added to Article 89 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland, title "Statistics and Infor-
mation as to Branches of Industry," said new sections to be
under the sub-title "Bureau of Mines," and to be known as
sections 16 to 176, inclusive, and to follow immediately after

Section 15 of said Article, and that Sections 196, 197 (as
amended by Chapter 410 of the Acts of 1916), 198, 199 (as
amended by Chapter 410 of the Acts of 1916), 200, 201, 202,
203, 204, 205, 206, 207, 208, 209, 209a, 209b, 209c, 209d,
