CHAPTER 121.
AN ACT to amend Chapter 8 of the Acts of the General Assem-
bly of Maryland of the Session of 1782, incorporating "The
Visitors and Governors of Washington College, in the State
of Maryland, " in so far as the same relates to the number
of visitors and governors, the manner of their election or ap-
pointment, their residence and qualification, by adding ad-
ditional section to said Act of Assembly, to be known as
Section XVI, and by repealing all parts of said Chapter 8
of the Acts of 1782, April Session, inconsistent with the
provisions of this Act.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Chapter 8 of the Acts of the General Assembly of
Maryland of the April Session of 1782, incorporating "The
Visitors and Governors of Washington College, in the State of
Maryland, " in so far as the same relates to the number of vis-
itors and governors, the manner of their election or appoint-
ment, their residence and qualification, be and the same is here-
by amended by adding an additional section to said Act of As-
sembly, to be known as Section XVI and to read as follows:
Section XVI. The members of the Visitors and Governors
of Washington College shall be twenty-five in number, twelve
of whom shall be elected by the alumni of Washington Col-
lege and twelve of said number shall be appointed by the Gov-
ernor of the State of Maryland; these twenty-four members or
a quorum thereof shall elect annually, during the month of
June, a president of the college, who shall by virtue of his
office be a member of the visitors and governors; of the twenty-
four members so elected or appointed, one shall be elected by
the alumni and one shall be appointed by the Governor from
each of the nine counties on the Eastern Shore of Maryland,
and three shall be elected by the alumni and three shall be
appointed by the Governor from any territory in or out of the
State of Maryland, saving and excepting the nine counties on
the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
The term of office of the members of the Visitors and Govern-
ors of Washington College shall be six years; provided, however,
that in order to establish overlapping terms of office for the
members, of the nine members from the counties of the Eastern
Shore of Maryland and three members at large first appointed
by the Governor of said State under the provision of this
amendment to the charter of said college, three members from
