City Council shall direct. He shall give bond for the faithful
performance of his duty in the sum of five thousand dollars
($5, 000. 00), to be approved by the Mayor and by the Com-
missioner of Finance and Revenue.
32. In addition to the duties hereinafter prescribed for the
City Tax Collector in Sections 58 to 63 of this Act, it shall also
be the duty of said Collector to collect all taxes levied in pur-
suance of the provisions of this Act, including water rent, with
such assistance as may be required from the City Solicitor,
and in the collection of the same in the event of non-payment
he shall proceed in accordance with the provisions of the law of
the State governing the collection of taxes, and shall have the
right to employ such remedies to enforce such collections as
are provided by the ordinances of the said Mayor and City
Council and the laws of the State for the collection of the taxes
levied for State and County purposes.
The said Mayor and City Council shall allow said Collector
for any insolvent or uncollectible taxes twice in each year at
an interval of six months, but not thereafter, and at the ses-
sions when allowances are considered the Mayor and City
Council may act as and have the power of a Board of Equali-
zation.
The said Tax Collector shall give bond in such amount as
the Mayor and City Council may provide, in a sum of not less
than twenty thousand ($20, 000) dollars, to be approved by
said Mayor and City Council; and the Mayor and City Coun-
cil shall have the right to require a new bond whenever in their
opinion the existing bond is insufficient, and whenever such
bond is required he shall perform no official act until said bond
shall be given and approved in the manner aforesaid. He
shall daily pay over to the Treasurer of said city all moneys
by him collected and shall report to said Mayor and City
Council at the first meeting of that body in every month a
full statement of all moneys so collected and paid over to him,
and shall perform all such other duties in such manner and
according to such rules and regulations as the said Mayor and
City Council shall prescribe.
33. The Health Officer shall be the secretary of the Board
of Health. He shall be charged with the duty of enforcing all
quarantine regulations and of keeping the streets, alleys and
sidewalks of said city, and all premises therein, in a sanitary
condition, and he shall be authorized to enter all houses and
