SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the first day of June, 1922.

CHAPTER 82.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 437
of Offutt's Code of the Public Local Laws of Baltimore
County of the Edition of 1916, as repealed and re-enacted
with amendments by Chapter 164 of the Acts of 1920, re-
lating to the appointment of members of the Police Force
of Baltimore County.

SECTION. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 437 of Offutt's Code of the Public Local
Laws of Baltimore County of the Edition of 1916, as repealed
and re-enacted by Chapter 164 of the Acts of 1920, be and
the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments
so as to read as follows:

SECTION 437. That all appointments hereafter made to the
Police Force of Baltimore County shall be made from the
qualified voters thereof and all applications for appointments
shall be made upon printed blanks to be furnished free of
charge by the County Commissioners, wherein the applicant
shall set forth in his own handwriting his full name and age.
the place and State of his birth, his occupation for two years
preceding his application and such other information as the
Commissioners may require touching the merits and fitness of
the applicant for the position for which he applies; such appli-
cation shall be signed by the applicant, with his affidavit that
the facts herein set forth are true to the best of his knowledge
and belief, and shall contain blanks to be filled in by four
reputable citizens of said county, certifying that the applicant
is known to them for not less than one year and in character
and habits, to the best of their knowledge and belief, is in all
respects fit for the service which he wishes to enter; provided
that no person shall be appointed on the Police Force of Balti-
more County who is less than twenty-one nor more than
forty years of age, and who shall not have been
found physically and mentally qualified to discharge the duties
