town. The Councilmen shall receive no pay for their services,
and the Major shall receive the fees hereinafter allowed. The
Mayor and the Councilmen shall serve for two years, beginning
with the first Monday in June ensuing after tlieir election. All
residents of that portion of said town included within its lim-
its by this act, and not heretofore included, shall, for all pur-
poses of this Charter, be considered to have resided in said
town for the length of time they have resided in said annexed
territorv.

(B) Elections shall be conducted by three judges appointed
by the Council, and shall be held at some convenient place to
be designated by the Council; and the judges shall appoint a
clerk of elections, The polls shall be opened at 6 A. M. and
closed at 7 P. M., when the ballots shall be carefully counted,
and on the result appearing, certificates of election shall be
granted by the judges to the Mayor and Councilmen so elected,
and a report of the- same shall be filed with the Council.

(C) A]] voting at municipal elections shall be upon official
ballots printed on plain white paper, and of uniform size pre-
pared and furnished by the Council to the judges of elections,
and to no other per.son. On such ballots shall appear the name
of each office to be filled at the said election, plainly printed in
black ink, and under which shall appear the names of the can-
didates for such office, alphabetically arranged. Immediately
following the name of each office, and preceding the names of
the candidates, shall be plainly printed in black ink a direction
to the voter, "Vote for one, vote for two or three (as the case
may be), by making a cross (N) mark in that square which is
opposite the name of the candidate to be voted for." A light
black line shall be printed immediately under the name of each
candidate, extending to a square or parallelogram opposite the
name of the candidate, and near the border of the paper. Im-
mediately following the names of the candidates there shall be
printed a sufficient number of light black lines extending from
one border of the ballot to the other, with a square or parallelo-
gram at the farthest border, on which the voter may insert in
writing the name or names of a candidate or candidates, if he
so desires, which name or names may not already be printed
on the ballot.

(D) An intending voter shall present himself at the bar of
the voting booth or place of election to vote, and on being ad-
mitted, if qualified and registered, the Clerk of Election shall
hand to said voter one of the official ballots above described,
