SEC. o. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the first day of June, 1922.

CHAPTER 513.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 31 of
Article 19 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland,
title "St. Mary's County," sub-title "County Commission-
ers," as amended by Chapter 653 of the Acts of 1920, and
also Section 32 of Article 19 of the Code of Public Local
Laws, title "St. Mary's County," sub-title "County Commis-
sioners," as amended by Chapter 170 of the Acts of 1890,
and to add a new section to be known as Section 31A to fol-
low immediately after Section 31, requiring working day
attendance of the Clerk to the County Commissioners at the
office of the County Commissioners between the hours of ten
o'clock in the morning and three o'clock in the afternoon and
denning certain duties of the Clerk to the County Commis-
sioners in addition to the duties now imposed by law.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 31 and 32 of Article 19 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "St. Mary's County,"
sub-title "County Commissioners," be and the same are hereby
repealed and re-enacted with amendments and that a new sec-
tion be and it is hereby added to said Article, to be known as
Section 31A, to follow immediately after Section 31 of said
Article, and to read as follows:
31. They shall authorize and direct at their first meeting
after their election and qualification and not later than the
year eighteen hundred and ninety-one and thereafter, to elect
by a majority vote a clerk to said board who shall serve as
such for a term of two years and until his successor is elected
and qualified. The clerk shall receive an annual salary of
eight hundred dollars ($800.00).
31A. It shall be the duty of the Clerk to the County Com-
missioners, in addition to the duties now imposed by law on
him, to keep accounts in well bound record books, to be pur-
chased by the County Commissioners, said books to be properly
titled and similar in quality to the permanent record books
