pay of the grade in the uniform force to which he may be trans-
ferred and returned.
745H. The Police Commissioner is hereby authorized and
empowered to appoint in his discretion one or more Police-
women to the police force of Baltimore City, with full power to
such policewomen to act as conservators of the peace and perform
such other duties as the Commissioner may prescribe and to
be subject in all respects to such rules and regulations as the
Police Commissioner may from time to time adopt, and the
said Commissioner shall have the power to remove any Police-
woman appointed by him for the violation of any rule or regu-
lation of the said Commissioner. The salary of a Policewoman
so appointed under the authority of this Act. shall not exceed
the sum of thirteen hundred dollars ($1,300) per annum, to be
paid by the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, and it shall
be included in the annual estimate of expenses by said Police
Commissioner certified to the Mayor and City Council of Bal-
timore.
745 I. Not more than five policewomen shall be appointed
under authority of this Act for police duty.
745 J. The Policewoman appointed under authority of this
Act shall not be required to pass examination for appointment
by the Board of Police Examiners.
The Police Commissioner is authorized, empowered, and di-
rected to select some suitable person to act as secretary to the
chief inspector of police of said city at a salary of twenty-three
hundred dollars ($2,300) per annum., payable monthly, and
the said secretary upon entering upon the duties of his office
shall enter into bond to the State of Maryland in the penalty
of two thousand dollars ($2,000), conditioned for the faithful
discharge of his duties as said secretary, the said bond to be
approved by the said Police Commissioner.
747A. It shall be the duty of the Police Commissioner to
advertise at least three times in not more than three daily news-
papers published in the City of Baltimore during the month
of October, 1922, and in the same month every two years there-
after, for bids from reputable clothing manufacturers to sup-
ply uniforms to members of the Police Department. The
Police Commissioner shall prepare such specifications and con-
duct the bidding under such rules and regulations as he may
