Maryland, title "'Health/' be and the same is hereby repealed
and re-enacted so as to "read as follows:
24. The State Board of Health is authorized and empow-
ered to establish six bureaus, to be known as the bureau of
communicable diseases, the bureau of bacteriology, the bureau
of chemistry,, the bureau of sanitary engineering, the bureau
of vital statistics, and the bureau of child hygiene.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted,, That a new section be
added to Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, title
"Health," said section to be known as Section 29A, to follow
immediately after Section 29 of said Article, and to read as
follows:
2 9A. The bureau of child hygiene shall investigate the
causes of infant mortality and the diseases of pregnancy, par-
turition, infancy and early childhood, and shall devise and in-
stitute preventive measures for their control; it shall promote
the welfare and hygiene of maternity and infancy; and per-
form such other duties and exercise such other functions as the
State Board of Health or the secretary thereof shall designate.
Provided, that no official, agent or representative of this bureau
shall enter any home or take charge of any child over the objec-
tion of any parent or guardian of such child or the person
having the custody of such child, and no such official, agent or
representative shall attempt to enforce any treatment or correc-
tion, except with the consent of the parents of such child or
the person standing in loco parentis.

CHAPTER 483.
ACT to add a new section to Article 43 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland, title "Health," to be known as Section
39, authorizing the county boards of health to appoint full-
time county health officers and denning the duties of such
health officers.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and the same is hereby added to
Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, title "Health,"
to be known as Section 39, and to read as follows:
