NOVEMBER.. LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP.

XXXVI.

rised to draw said lottery; provided, that the said Jacob T. Towson, William McCoy, Thomas Helm,
John Hogg, Daniel Weisel and William S, Compton, or such majority of them as shall undertake to
act under this law, shall, before the sale or disposal of any ticket or tickets in said lottery, give
their bond to the state of Maryland, in the penalty of twelve hundred dollars, conditioned, that they
will well and truly apply so much of the money arising therefrom, within twelve months after the
drawing of said lottery shall commence, as will satisfy the fortunate adventurers for prizes drawn by
them, and after deducting the necessary expences incurred in said lottery, shall, within one year
from the time the drawing of said lottery shall commence, apply the money raised by such lottery
for the purpose of erecting a market-house on the reserved lots aforesaid.

Bond to be
lodged, &c.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall be the duty of the said commissioners, before they ad
as such, to lodge the bond made and entered into as aforesaid in the office of the clerk of Washing-
ton county court, there to be recorded, and upon such bond, or any office copy thereof, suit or suits
may be instituted against the obligors therein, or any of them, or their legal representatives, for a«y
breach or non-compliance with the condition of the same.

C H A P. XXXVII.

ry 12., 1805.

An ACT to continue an act, entitled, An act to incorporate an in-
surance company in Baltimore-town, and another act, entitled, A
supplement to an act, entitled, An act to incorporate an insurance
company in Baltimore-town, and for other purposes.

Preamble.

WHEREAS the stockholders in the Baltimore insurance company, by their petition have repre-
sented to this general assembly, that their charter of incorporation is about to expire, and
pray a renewal of the same; and the prayer of the said petitioners appearing reasonable, therefore,

Acts continued,
&c.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland^ That an act, entitled, An act to incor-
porate an insurance company in Baltimore-town, passed at November session, seventeen hundred and
ninety-five, and also another act, entitled, A supplement to an act, entitled, An act to incorporate
an insurance company in Baltimore-town, passed at November session, seventeen hundred and nine-
ty-six, be and the same are hereby continual until the first day of February, eighteen hundred and
twenty, and until the end of the next session of assembly that may happen thereafter, except so
much of the aforesaid original act is altered and repealed by an act, entitled, An act to repeal part
of an act, entitled, An act to incorporate an insurance company in Baltimore-town, and to enable
any one company, or stockholder in said company, to hold a greater number of shares therein than
by said act it is now permitted any one company or person to hold, passed at November session, se-
venteen hundred and ninety-eight, and also except the alteration made by this act.

Company may
extend their in-
surances, &c.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said company shall have power to extend their insurances on
one vessel or bottom to any amount, not exceeding fifty thousand dollars, any thing in the said ori-
ginal charter of incorporation to the contrary notwithstanding.

And cover all
objects, &c.

IV. AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall and may be lawful for the said company to cover, by
their policy, all objects of marine insurance whatsoever, any thing in the said original act of incor-
poration, or the supplement thereto, to the contrary notwithstanding.

CHAP. XXXVIII.

Passed Janua-
ry 12, 1805.

An ACT authorising a lottery to raise a sum of money for opening
a road from Liberty-town, In Frederick county, through the main
square of New-Market to Hyatt's-town, in Montgomery county.

A scheme may
be proposed,

&c.

BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for Nicholas
Hall, James Wagers, Jacob Grove, Henry Nelson, James Adams, Belt Brashear, Abraham
Crabster and Robert Cummings, or a majority of them, to propose a scheme or schemes of a lottery
for raising a sum of money, not exceeding two thousand dollars, and to sell and dispose of the tickets
thereof; provided the said Nicholas Hall, James Wagers, Jacob Grove, Henry Nelson, James Adams,
Belt Brashear, Abraham Grabster and Robert Cummins, or such majority of them as shall under-
take to act under this law, shall, before the sale or disposal of any ticket or tickets in said lottery,
give their bond to the state of Maryland, in the penalty of four thousand dollars, conditioned that
they will well and truly apply so much of the money arising therefrom, within six months after the
