CHAP. XX.

1804,

An ACT authorising Henry Howard, late sheriff and collector of
Anne-Arundel county, to complete his collection.

Passed Janua-
ry 5, 1805.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition of Henry Howard, late
sheriff and collector of Anne-Arundel county, that from various causes therein set forth he
has not been able to complete his collection within the time limitted, and that there is still due to him,
as sheriff and collector of said county, considerable sums of money, and praying that a law may pass
to enable him to collect the same; therefore,

Preamble.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the said Henry Howard be and he
is hereby authorised to collect, until the first day of December, eighteen hundred and five, all ba-
lances due him, as sheriff and collector of Anne-Arundel county, for the year eighteen hundred and
three, in the same manner as he could or might have done within the time limitted by law, any law
to the contrary notwithstanding.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall be the duty of the said Henry Howard, before he pro-
ceeds to execute or distrain the property of any person or persons for taxes, officers fees or public
dues, in virtue of this act, to deliver to such person or persons chargeable with the same, at least
thirty days previous to levying such execution or distress, an account, written in words at full length,
of the taxes, officers fees or public dues, demanded of him, her or them, with an affidavit annexed,
if required, that he hath not received any part thereof, nor any thing as security or satisfaction for
the same, more than credit given, to the best of his knowledge.

To deliver an

IV. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said Henry Howard, before he derives any benefit from or
under this act, shall lodge a copv of his collection books in the clerk's office of Anne-Arundel coun-
ty, to be opened for the inspection of all persons interested in the same.

CHAP. XXI.

Books to be
lodged, &c.

An ACT to prevent the running at large of swine in the town of
New-Winsor, in Frederick county.

ry 5. 1805.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition of Isaac Atlee, of Fre-
derick county, that the running at large of swine in the town of New-Winsor is very in-
jurious; therefore,

Preamble.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That it shall and maybe lawful for Isaac
Atlee, or any person residing in the said town of New-Winsor, to seize and impound any swine, the
property of any person in said town, that may be found going at large in said town; and it shall be
the duty of any such person as aforesaid, so seizing and impounding, immediately to set up notice
^hereof in the most public places in said town for at least three days, and to insert the marks and
description of said swine in said notices, and if the same are not reclaimed within three days after
seizure and impounding, and the expence of impounding and keeping, to be allowed by a justice of
the peace, to be paid, together with the sum of seventy-five cents for every hog, that the same shall be
publicly sold by the person impounding the same, giving three days notice, in writing, set up as
aforesaid, of the time and place of such sale, and the proceeds of such sale shall be first applied to
the expence of impounding and keeping said swine, and the surplus, if any, shall be applied to the
erecting or keeping in repair both houses at the sulphur springs, in or near the said town of New-
Winsor.
CHAP. XXII.

Swine may be
seized, &c.

A Supplement to an act, entitled, An act to prevent swine from go-
ing at large in the town of Bladensburgh, in Prince-George's
county.

Passed Janua-
ry 5, 1805.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition of sundry inhabitants
of the town of Bladensburgh, in Prince-George's county, that the law passed at November
session, seventeen hundred and ninety-one, to prevent swine from going at large in the said town,
has been found to be defective, and inadequate to effect the desired purpose; therefore,

Preamble.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That from and after the fifth day of
March next, it shall and may be lawful for all and every person or persons to kill or destroy any
