FEDERATE DELEGATION.
purpose, to the United States in congress as-
sembled, as when agreed to by them, and duly
confirmed by the stveral states, will effectually
provide for the same; and the said deputies, or
such of them as shall attend the said conven-
tion, shall have full power to represent this state
for the purposes aforesaid; and the said depu-
ties are hereby directed to report the proceed-
ings of the said convention, and any act agreed
to therein, to the next session of the general
assembly of this state."
In persuance of the foregoing powers, the
delegates of Maryland met those appointed for
the same purpose by the other states, at Phila-
delphia, and on the 17th September, 1787, and
agreed to the original articles of the Constitu-
tion of the United States, which was signed on
behalf of the State of Maryland, by James
McHenry, Daniel of St. Thomas Jenifer and
Daniel Carroll.
Delegates were chosen from the several coun-
ties of the state, who met at Annapolis in April
1788, for the purpose of considering the consti-
tution as proposed; which convention on the
28th of that month solemnly accepted and rati-
fied the said constitution for themselves and on
behalf of the people of Maryland,
